“Well done”

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. (1 Corinthians 1:26 ESV)

People think that being a great and eloquent speaker before masses, being a gifted musician or painter, being a great scientist or inventor, being a great actor or singer are enviable gifts and talents, and yes, of course, these are valuable and good gifts if they’re used in the right way.

However, from God’s perspective, the person who feels they can’t do much else, but at the Lord’s nudging encourages the person next to them, is doing one of the greatest things that can be done. When you do something for one of the many others who you have helped over the years, you are exhibiting the gift of empathy that reflects the heart of God in a tangible way to those in need.

You don’t have to be great in the eyes of others to lift the hands that hang down by motivating them to keep going nor to strengthen the feeble knees that are shaking because of fear. You don’t have to be brilliant to bring hope to the discouraged, nor to stir some weary soul to keep going.

When you stop and sacrifice your own time to give to others, it all comes from the beautiful gift of encouragement that the Lord has given you. It’s a gift that you have worked long and hard to develop and practice in your life. That is what brings God’s blessing on your own life and His “well done.” [1]
